Great point Andy, bugs can be a great source of protein and nutrients in the wilderness!

Those survival cards are good but they should be augmented with the ability to construct your tools from natural materials in my opinion.

One element of foraged food that I see missing in the article is bugs! An excellent source of easy-to-find protein (even more so than small game) and a generally safer food source than plants (generally less prone to toxicity), it makes for a sustaining food source until other more complex (i.e. faster) sources can be acquired.

A piece of bushcraft gear that I would also recommend is either survival arrow cards or the Bushcraft spear head. Light and simple, they are good additions to what would still amount to bushcraft equipment.

There are lots of skills to learn out there. If you are uncomfortable with cleaning game, you can refine your ability to forage plants or other ways to feed yourself such as your chickens. There is always a way!

I am a female alone. I just don't want to dress an animal. If my children were small, I would. However. I have hens for eggs for protein. I suppose the reason I do not want to dress an animal is because I don't know how. Both parents and my brother knew how.
